Just Imagine — that on earth all human beings were united as one, living together in harmony. We all know how beautiful that would be. What a wonderful world it could be…
Four years ago my colleague Melissa Bailey (Melissa B), an incredibly talented singer/songwriter/performer and fellow Grammy artist approached me and said, “Why don’t we write a song about global peace?” 2017 was a devastating year with natural disasters such as catastrophic floods, wildfires and earthquakes affecting millions across the globe. So, it certainly seemed like then was the right time. And so I sat down…

Sometimes I feel truly tormented!
For I can say unequivocally, I’m one of the very fortunate souls. Having loving and caring parents who not only afforded me the best education money can buy, but did everything they could to see that my life was better than theirs. I mean isn’t that what all parents want for their children? I’ve also had a life of boundless travel and success in professions that have always been my passion. Even the past 18+ months dealing with the ravages of a global pandemic my continuous successes have risen leaps and bounds.

I must say it took a lot of research to find information on this region of the world. And within these three small countries with very small populations I was surprised at the issues children face. It seems that no matter where I go in the world and research I’m sadly alarmed of the suffering children face. Third world countries comes as no surprise but first world nations is disquieting.

The wealth of a nation lies in its people — their commitment to country and community, their willingness to strive and persevere, their ability to think, achieve and excel. How we raise our young at home and teach them in school will shape our society in the next generation. Our future depends on the continuous renewal and regeneration of our leadership and citizenry, building upon the experience of the past, learning from the circumstances of the present, and preparing to seize the opportunities of the future.

Exposure to violence in media, including television, movies, music, and video games, represents a significant risk to the health of children and adolescents. Extensive research evidence indicates that media violence can contribute to aggressive behavior, desensitization to violence, nightmares, fear of being harmed and decreases prosocial behavior (eg, helping others) and empathy.

Beginning in the 1880s, Aboriginal children across Canada were removed, often forcibly, from their homes and placed in Indian Residential Schools. At the schools, students were forbidden to speak Native languages and practice their culture. Testimony from surviving former students presents overwhelming evidence of widespread neglect, starvation, extensive physical and sexual abuse, and many student deaths related to these crimes. As is so often the case with state-inflicted mass atrocities, records indicating accurate rates of abuse and death at residential schools do not exist or were destroyed. Until existing estimates can be substantiated with research, we only…

Street children are poor or homeless who live on the streets of a city, town, or village. Some street children, notably in more developed nations, are part of a subcategory called thrown-away children, consisting of children who have been forced to leave home. Thrown-away children are more likely to come from single-parent homes. Street children are often subject to abuse, neglect, exploitation, or, in extreme cases, murder by “clean-up squads” that have been hired by local businesses or police.
Street children throughout the world are subjected to physical abuse by police or have been murdered outright, as…

Reactions to COVID-19 have caused a great many changes to daily life. One group particularly affected by these changes is our youth from pre-teens to high-school students and college students. They are facing challenges that have never happened before on this scale.
I’ve spent the last two months in Portugal talking with 9th grade students, martial arts students and their teachers and it is quite alarming how the past 18 months has completely turned their entire lives upside down. …

For those of us in more developed countries, the idea of a young girl, of 13, 14, 15, 16, marrying a much older man is generally seen as disgusting, not to mention illegal. But in many countries it still happens a lot and so many women have had their lives altered significantly by marrying young. Many in the United States would be shocked at the following statistics of child marriage. Nearly 300,000 children — under the age of 18 were legally married in the U.S between 2000–2018. …
