Disturbing footage surfaced showing a wounded Palestinian strapped to the hood of an IOF jeep during an arrest raid in Jenin, a city in the West Bank, amid ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

The image showing a wounded Palestinian man strapped to an Israeli military vehicle and being used as a “human shield” went viral on social media on Saturday, June 22.

The man, identified by medics as 24-year-old Mujahid Raed Abbadi, is seen tied horizontally to the bonnet of a military jeep navigating a narrow alley in Jenin, West Bank. The Israeli military announced on Sunday that it confirmed the incident, after it was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, provoking widespread condemnation from viewers online. It occurred during a supposed “counterterrorism operation” to arrest wanted suspects near Wadi Burqin, close to Jenin.

The unsettling video depicts a bloodied Palestinian resident of Jenin, identified locally as Mujahed Azmi, bound to the front of the vehicle as it moved between two ambulances

They acknowledged the violation of orders and standard operating procedures, stating that the suspect was taken while tied on top of the vehicle before being transferred to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society.

Francesca Albanese, the United Nations special rapporteur on human rights in the Palestinian territories, condemned the use of Abbadi as a human shield. Abbadi, recovering in the hospital, told AFP that he was wounded as he stepped out of his uncle’s house in the Jenin neighborhood of Jabriyat.

“I tried to withdraw and get inside the house, but they started shooting,” he said, describing how he was hit in the hand. “When the soldiers arrived, they stomped on my head and hit my face, my injured leg, and hand,” Abbadi recounted. “They were laughing and playing while they hit me.”

This incident exemplifies the ongoing brutalities faced by Palestinians. The severity of these acts continues to escalate, defying expectations of any possible limit to the cruelty. The shocking and inhumane actions against Palestinians by Israeli forces continue to escalate. Just when it seems things can’t get worse, they do.

In my decade of witnessing the horrors of war zones from Ukraine to South Sudan, Iraq, Syria, and beyond, the atrocities inflicted on defenseless women and children in Palestine stand out. Despite the Israeli government’s claim of being “the most moral army in the world,” these acts reveal a stark contrast, highlighting deep hypocrisy and deceit. They are widely seen as one of the most corrupt and ruthless regimes globally, with Prime Minister Netanyahu being one of the most reviled leaders in the world.
